Syracuse Ice Hockey 2025 Struggles continue in Loss to No. 9 Penn State
Today was pajama day, here at the Tennity Ice Pavilion for tonight’s matchup between Syracuse and Number 9 Penn State. Now, if you only look at the final score, which was 4-0 in favor of the Nittany Lions, you might think that the Orange were asleep for the entire game. But, SU Head Coach Britni Smith wants to remind you that there are a lot of positives to pull from tonight’s loss.
“We were able to definitely generate more offense. We were able to get more pucks into the crease. We got to work now on just making sure that we’re taking eyes away. The decent number of our shots you saw all the way, all the way in. So, you know, finding opportunities to get a better net-front presence.”
Today’s loss puts SU at 0-8 in the year of 2025. But Coach Smith notes that their recent opponents have been no walk in the park.
“I think we’re fine. I mean, our culture has been something that’s been a strength of ours this season, so that’s something we really got to lean into now. Like we’ve said, it’s been a tough start to the second half in terms of the ranked opponents we face, so just seeing the bigger picture, not worried about the record in the second half here. We’ve put ourselves in a really good spot, and it’s conference play the rest of the way, so this is the time to embrace the grind and get back to work.”
After being swept in their last three series, Syracuse looks ahead to next weekend on Friday where they will start their home-and-home against RIT. The Orange tallied their own sweep against the Tigers earlier this season. Reporting from Tennity Ice Pavilion, Ben Chadwick, Citrus TV.
