Syracuse Ice Hockey knocks off Robert Morris 4-1

The Hats came flying onto the ice tonight in Syracuse ice hockey’s four one victory over Robert Morris forward Bryn Saarela bagged the first hat trick of her career in the victory, and capped it off with an empty netter with just a minute and a half left in the game, the fifth year had everybody to thank but herself.

“I think again, the people who are playing with me, they’re getting me the pucks were doing the things right. So, yeah, people around me. I mean, Tatum’s been a huge help with me, and then playing with a freshman has been a big part of it. Just letting her, like, adapt to the game with us, it’s been helpful. And I think just teaching her the ways.”

Prior to this season, the most goals Sorella had scored in a single game was just one, and this year, in just half a season, the fifth year, has had two multi-score contests. Head Coach Brittany Smith said Sorella is a thrill to have on the ice.

“She impacts the game every shift. She’s someone who’s really good on the defensive side of the puck. I think she had 11 shots tonight. So obviously, she’s someone who can find offense. Found the back of the net for sure tonight as well. So she’s someone we really look for or look to, to be able to impact our game in a number of ways. And getting the hat trick shows how she can definitely have that offensive player as well.”

With a win tonight, Syracuse gets off a three-game skid, and it looks to extend the win streak to two with another game against Robert Morris tomorrow. Puck drop is at three o’clock for Syracuse’s final game of the calendar year.
