Syracuse Ice Hockey Drop its Eighth Straight Game in Overtime

Syracuse Ice Hockey loses 3-2 to 12th ranked Penn State in overtime. SU is winless in its last seven overtime games. It has lost each of its two overtime matchups this season. The Orange were in control for most of this game. While they surrendered the first goal, two second-frame scores would give them the lead. Syracuse then had the lead headed into the third. That marked the first time SU had a lead heading into the final frame since its second game versus Stonehill earlier this season. The third period was the largest momentum changer for the Orange. They went into the period outshooting Penn State 16-15. The Nittany Lions proceeded to shut down the Orange. They didn’t give up one singular shot in the final period of regulation. Meanwhile, Penn State recorded 18 shots of its own. PSU had all the momentum going into overtime and showed it. In the final 22 minutes of the contest, Penn State didn’t see a single shot in their own direction. It had all four of the overtime attempts on net and found twine on one. Overall, PSU outshot SU 37-16 in its win. Syracuse goaltender Allie Kelley had yet another 30+ save performance. This is her 5th time this season with 30 or more. Syracuse has a date with revenge tomorrow at 3 p.m. Syracuse still seeks its first win against a ranked opponent since 2019. It also looks to break its eight game losing streak. If SU does lose tomorrow, it would officially tie their longest losing streak since 2019 with nine straight defeats.
