Syracuse finishes off the weekend 2-5 after it loses 4-1 to 10th-ranked Quinnipiac in game two of the set. In the two-game series, SU was outscored 8-1 by QU.

This game was quite different from the first contest though. In game one, the Orange were outshot 45-7. In this game Syracuse beat that shot total in the first period which ended scoreless. Then in the second period, SU got itself on the board to take its first lead of the series. However, Quinnipiac struck back and couldn’t be stopped. The Bobcats went on to score four unanswered goals for the victory. Part of that stretch for QU was a hat trick from Quinnipiac forward Maya Labad. The senior scored three straight goals to lead the charge for QU. That tally puts the Montreal native at seven scores on the year. That is tied for the most in the nation.

Two of the three goals from Labad were scored on the power play which was one of the reasons Syracuse deteriorated throughout the game. SU committed five penalties including a major from Charlotte Hallett. Those penalties combined for 21 total minutes in the box. Four out of the five were committed in the second and third periods. The choppy pace of play in the final 60 minutes slowed down the Orange’s moment throughout the game.

In the end, this game looked far more uneven than it was due to the dominant final 30-minute QU put together. Quinnipiac outshot Syracuse 39-12 in the second and third frames. The final shot count in this game was 47-22 in favor of Quinnipiac. SU tripled its shot count from last night.

Next up for the Orange is another doubleheader against Boston University next weekend. The two-game series begins Friday at 6 p.m.
