Syracuse Men’s Soccer Loses its Fourth Game at Home in a 2-1 Defeat to Wake Forest

In the 1993 classic Groundhog Day, Bill Murray acts as a television reporter who just keeps living the same day over and over again. For Syracuse Men’s Soccer, it seems that SU might be in its own version of the 20th Century classic. Syracuse lost 2-1 to Wake Forest in a match that the Orange held the lead with less than 15 minutes to go in the contest. Back to back goals from Wake in the 78th and 80th minute propelled the Demon Deacons to the first ever win at SU Soccer Stadium. Even after the loss, head coach Ian McIntyre could only think of the positives moving forward.

“In order to win these games, you’ve got to leave it all on the field,” he said. “It’s emotionally, physically [draining], I couldn’t ask any more from our guys. Yeah, a couple of mistakes, a couple of soft goals, once again credit to Wake Forest. You get punished in this league and you get punished with our schedule. When you play Cornell midweek, that’s a national tournament team. But we need those games and we need these games to get better.”

After tonight’s loss, Syracuse drops to 3-4-3 and under .500 for the first time this season. SU has a chance to rebound when it travels East on I-90 to face UAlbany Tuesday at 7. The Great Danes come in with just two wins on the year, but did draw Cornell 2-2 just two weeks ago.
