Halfway through the first quarter, Number 7 Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse was down 5-1. However, SU came back and took down Number 9 Virginia 15-14 on the road earlier today. The Orange have now won two straight games against top-ten teams.
This contest went back and forth. Throughout the contest, no team could gain control. With the game tied at 14, midfielder Emma Tyrrell scored the go-ahead goal with just over two minutes to play. The story once again for SU was the offensive depth. Syracuse’s top players did not have their best game. However, midfielder Maddy Baxter scored a career-high five goals.
Another player who has stepped up recently is freshman Joley Caramelli. The midfielder has now scored a goal in the last four games. A reason other players were able to get involved was the dominance at the center circle. Syracuse won the battle at X 21-12. Midfielder Kate Mashewkse won 18 of those draws. As we past the halfway point of the season the Orange are starting to play their best lacrosse. Syracuse’s defense made some great adjustments today. Virginia was held scoreless for the final 14 minutes.
Syracuse has won four straight and improves to 7-3 on the season. The Orange are back in action on Wednesday at home. Syracuse takes on another top-ten team in Loyola. Opening draw for that one is at 4.
