Just 2 weeks ago, Syracuse softball had dropped 6 straight, and had looked like its season was going straight downhill. Now the Orange are on a 5-game win streak and it feels like SU could take down almost anybody after a 6-1 victory over Virginia.

Syracuse put up 2 runs in the first but not the way you may think. The Orange tallied just one hit but a fielder’s choice, a walk, and then an error saw 2 runners cross for the early advantage.

The Cavaliers didn’t take long to respond though. Jade Hylton hit a leadoff double but then the game was delayed for almost 2 hours due to rain. The downpour in the old dominion didn’t cool Virginia. Straight out of the delay, Bella Cabral doubled herself and cut SU’s lead in half.

The second through the fifth was nothing but a pitching dual. Both teams combined for one hit, seven strikeouts, and a total of just three batters reached base in the 4 innings.

In the sixth though SU cracked the game open by none other than Taylor Posner. The Junior launched her 9th home run of the season to center field and the Orange got an insurance run.

Later in the frame, a walk, a single and a walk loaded the bases for Syracuse with 2 outs. Then on the first pitch of the at-bat. Kelly Breen was hit, scoring another for SU. Angel Jasso would then single up the middle to score 2 more.

The Cavaliers tried fighting back in the bottom of the sixth. A double and a walk saw runners on first and third with one out. However, Sarah Coon tailed a 6-4-3 double play to put a pitch-perfect ending for SU.

Syracuse and Virginia aren’t done with each other yet. The Orange take on the Cavilers again tonight with the chance of winning the series. Game time is at 1.
