Syracuse Takes Tale of Two Halves on Jim Boeheim Day
By Ben Spector | @bespector
Today was a celebration for all the accomplishments Jim Boeheim had in his 47 years as head coach of Syracuse men’s basketball.
The first half of this matchup was truly a party in the Dome. Syracuse led 49-29 at the break, and the Orange at one point had a 29-point advantage over the Irish. Notre Dame, though, roared back and posted 56 in the second half.
Syracuse fought off Notre Dame, though, and took this one 88-85. After the game, all Syracuse talked about was how it needed stops down the stretch.
“The shots that they got in the second half they didn’t get in the first half,” SU head coach Adrian Autry said. “A lot of that was us. I thought we lost our focus and let up a lot. I give credit to Notre Dame. The one thing about this team is you know they will fight.”
“They never had the lead,” SU guard Judah Mintz said. “We knew they were going to have to catch us to win the game. They hit every shot, it felt like, in the second half. We knew we just had to contain them in the second half and we would win.”
With the win, the Orange improved to 9-8 in ACC play and have won two straight. Next up for the ‘Cuse is the last home matchup of the season against Virginia Tech. Tipoff is at 7 on Tuesday, February 27th.
