Syracuse Women’s Ice Hockey Drops First Game of the Weekend to RIT

Game one between Syracuse Women’s Ice Hockey (6-22-3, 3-12-2 CHA) and RIT (13-15-2, 7-10-0 CHA) was a low-scoring affair, but it was the Tigers that pulled out the 1-0 victory. The only goal of the contest came five minutes in when RIT forward Jordyn Bear scored just seconds into the powerplay. The Orange were unable to find the net themselves, being shut out for the seventh time this season.
Although the disappointing result, it was a stellar defensive performance from the Orange conceding less than two goals for just the fifth time all season. The defense held RIT scoreless for the last 55 minutes of action, but the offense couldn’t muster up a game-tying goal. SU set a season-high in blocked shots, stopping 24 pucks before they got to goalie Allie Kelly. Defenders Tatum White and Rachel Teslak combined for 10 of those blocked Tiger shots. Netminder Allie Kelley was magnificent in goal yet again, turning away 26 of the 27 shots that were fired her way.
These two teams battle again tomorrow, this time in Syracuse. SU looks to pick up a point from the weekend series, with just three games left in the campaign. Tomorrow’s contest will be played at Upstate Medical Arena, home of the Syracuse Crunch, a place where SU hockey hasn’t played since 2019. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m.
