No. 15 Penn State Uses Third Period Surge to Sweep Syracuse 6-2

Today, Syracuse found itself in a tight-knit battle, trailing by just a goal entering the third period. But then, #15 Penn State’s offense exploded in the final frame for 3 goals in 9 minutes. That resulted in a 6-2 win for the Nittany Lions to complete the weekend sweep. After the game, head coach Britni Smith highlighted what went wrong in the final 20 minutes.
“Unfortunate third goal for them and we just didn’t have a response. That’s something that we talked a lot about is having a response for goals for and goals against. It kinda felt like we sunk into our own shells a little bit there at the end and they capitalized.”
“We went over some video and had a really good game plan in place, and they executed very well for about 90 percent of the game today. Overall we are very happy with our play and, obviously, that 10 percent that Penn State was able to capitalize on is our focus now.”
“I think there were a few mistakes that ended up compounding. I thought we played a really good game today. For 90% of the game, we played Syracuse hockey and I think we did that really well. We just have a few things we gotta clean up and I’m really proud of our effort today.”
SU suffered its third straight setback and its 6th straight loss to PSU. Conference play rolls on for the Orange next weekend, when they pay a visit to western Pennsylvania against Robert Morris.
