Syracuse Blown Out Again at Virginia Tech
At every home game at Lane Stadium, Virginia Tech’s players and coaches walk down the home tunnel with ‘Enter Sandman” blaring and thousands of people jumping in their seats, tap the Hokie stone, and get ready to play football against whoever is out on the field.
For Virginia Tech on Thursday night, it was a Syracuse team it thoroughly dominated 38-10 all night long. The Hokies came out hot and stayed hot. Syracuse was the exit opposite, coming out cold and getting nothing going on the offensive end of the field all night long, something Garrett Shrader said has to change.
“The biggest thing for me personally is avoiding losses on first down,” Syracuse’s starting quarterback said. “That’s kind of been a common theme that I have to be better at because it puts us behind the chains and it’s hard to go be efficient doing that. So, that’s one thing I can look at off the bat but the rest we’ll have to watch to figure out what we can do better.”
Sharder was not the only person echoing those sentiments. Dino Babers after Syracuse’s 41-3 loss to Florida State claimed that the offense would get back on track after the bye, but he too is now searching for new solutions.
“It’s starting to be a theme and I’m not satisfied with that,” the 8th-year head coach said. “We have to find a way to stop that and find a way to get in these games and not out of them and I’m a little upset about that.”
Syracuse hasn’t scored more than 14 points in a game since it hosted Army on September 23rd. The next chance for the Orange to get back on track and in the win column is on Friday, November 3rd against Boston College in the JMA Wireless Dome. SU took down BC 32-23 in Chestnut Hill last season and has won the last two matchups between the two schools. Kickoff is at 7:30.
