Syracuse Tennis Outnumbered and Overpowered in 6-1 Loss to No. 1 North Carolina

Facing the number one team in the nation is a difficult test in itself. Having to forfeit a doubles and singles match due to injury makes the task of winning almost impossible. Syracuse found that out in a 6-1 loss to North Carolina. Ines Fonte suffered an injury in Friday’s contest against Duke and that kept her out of today’s match, leaving Syracuse with just five players. Despite that, there were a few positives to take away for the Orange. That included Miyuka Kimoto’s impressive effort as she prevailed in a super tiebreaker over Abby Forbes, the 18th ranked player in the country.

Head coach Younes Limam said, “Great effort, super proud of her but we need that consistency all the time. You know I think honestly that’s what makes the difference between good and great teams. Great teams show up and they do that day in and day out. We have to compete at a high level consistently and if we do that I know what this team is capable of.”

Getting back to playing well consistently as a team is crucial going forward for the final stretch of the season. The Orange hit the road for their final four matches and then have the ACC Tournament down in Cary, North Carolina after that. The lengthy road trip down south all begins on Friday when Syracuse takes on NC State at 2 p.m.
