SU Introduces New Bus Route For Off-Campus Neighborhood | News Live at 6
As of Monday January 30, 2023, Syracuse University will include a new loop for their shuttle system, providing service along the perimeters of Euclid and Westcott. These shuttles will run from 7:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. seven days a week.
This plan has been in development for almost a year. As a result of increasing over-admittance rates in recent years, students have no choice but to move further and further from campus. This has contributed to a rise in requests for SU safety escort services, which aid students in uncomfortable situations at night or during bad weather conditions. However, this rise is costly.
The university hopes that the addition of the Euclid loop will decrease the number of escort calls per night. While officials believe this loop will serve great value for student residents on the East side, its creation also takes away a vital loop for design students. The Warehouse shuttle loop will be discontinued after 8:00 p.m. as of Monday January 30, 2023.
Neighbors and faculty already have plenty to say on the subject, both good and bad. However, political science professor Harry Lambright urges people to remember the purpose of these shuttles: “Putting it [a stop] right on the corner…where there is already traffic both ways…will help students get to school.”
