CHARLES, M.O. — After a tight first two periods, in which both Lindenwood (2-21-0, 2-6-0 in CHA) and Syracuse (8-15-1, 5-2-0 in CHA) scored a goal each, the 3rd Period proved to be an offensive explosion for Syracuse, in which the Orange scored 3 goals to win the game 4-1.
Rhea Hicks had a big night for the Orange with two goals, Tatum White also had a goal and an assist in the win. The 2nd period was the only period in which Lindenwood outshot Syracuse, but Goaltender Arielle DeSmet was able to shut it down and hold the Lions quiet.
On top of notching the win, DeSmet reached her 2,000th career save for Syracuse in the first few minutes of the game. The Grad student made 22 saves for the evening, but the first one was certainly the biggest of the night.
Lindenwood, who came into tonight with a record of 2-20, have struggled in every single statistical category this season. That, on top of a CHA matchup, made tonight absolutely crucial for Syracuse to get the win. The 3rd period will certainly give Syracuse momentum going through the rest of the road trip.
Looking ahead, Syracuse will play one more against Lindenwood Saturday at 2pm, before heading back to Upstate New York, where they will take on RIT in a home and home on Tuesday and Wednesday.
