SU Prepares to Welcome Hundreds of Families for Parents Weekend

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Family weekend will begin this weekend for the first time since 2019. Syracuse University’s Parent and Family Services is in-charge of the planning that went into the weekend, and is the first time the University has offered an in-person family weekend since the pandemic hit. 1,300 families have already pre-registered online. 

“I think its so fun. My parents are coming, I know a lot of my friends parents are coming. We’re all gonna get dinner and do something together. I think its gonna be great, for everyone.” said Syracuse University junior Mike Rizzuto. 

Parents weekend is to last from Friday, October 8th through Sunday, October 10th. Programs begin early Friday morning and range from campus tours to individual events panning across different schools throughout the University. Orange After Dark is set to host late night movie nights and events, and there are are Dean Breakfasts at every school in the University. 

“I’m hoping it kind of gives everyone that little refresh they need. I know I have midterms killing me this week. And I know seeing my mom and just getting that hug is going to help keep going throughout the semester,” Syracuse University student Jenna Klein said. 

There are COVID-19 restrictions still that students and their families must follow. Masks are required at all times, indoors and outdoors. Families cannot enter residence halls as guests, and pre-screening is required upon entrance to the home-game against Wake Forest on Saturday, October 9th. An online registration fee of $50 is required and covers all family weekend activity expenses and includes a parking pass per family.
