Student Move-Out is Right Around the Corner
By Olivia Mansicalco
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University students have to move out no later than 24 hours after their last final. If they want, they can leave earlier. Many students are leaving earlier because a semester without breaks has caused them to feel burnt out.
Miles Robison, an SU Freshman, said “at a point it just kind of hit me like a brick wall.” There was never a break in work. It became nearly impossible to keep pushing. Freshman Janelle Naylon said “I needed a break, more than just two wellness days randomly placed in the semester.” While the wellness days were nice, for the day, the next day would come and students would feel like they were drowning in work once again. This negatively affected the mental health of many. They just want to go home and take a break until the fall semester.
The lack of breaks was especially hard on seniors, too. With the pressure of finding a job coincides with classes, it is difficult in any year. Adding the pressure of the pandemic and a year without breaks makes it even worse.
After May 22nd, students will be fully moved out of SU, and the university will start preparing for the fall semester.
